• Around 100 million tons of plastic are produced each year.
• 10 million tons of it ends up in the ocean.
• 80% of the plastic that ends up in the ocean comes from land.
• The Trash Vortex, or Eastern Garbage Patch is an area equivalent in size to Texas. 
• The plastic in the ocean is not biodegradable, most of it falls to the ocean floor or is consumed by marine life.
• Not only is plastic polluting the water, it is destroying marine and plant life. Species like the Albatross are dying off due to eating the plastic.
• The plastic consumed by the fish contains chemicals that are absorbed into the fish.
• This can be dangerous to humans, depending on the level of toxicity.
